Reasons Why Playing Online Poker is Great for Women

Poker is traditionally a man-dominated game. Women are beginning to make appearances at final tables however, and there are reasons why online poker is partly responsible for this.

There's no doubt that poker has traditionally been a man's game, at least that's the impression you get if you take a look at the top professional poker players of the 20th century. Things are changing however, and women are starting to take their place at final tables in tournaments around the world, and one of the reasons for this is the possibility to play poker online.

Although it's more than possible to learn the basics of poker in the comfort of your own home, or in a casino, in the past women haven't been attracted to poker in the same way that men have. Online poker has started to change things and there are a number of reasons for this.

1. Online Poker Convenience

You can play poker at a time that suits you. Whilst that also applies to men, for women it means that they can have themselves dealt into a turbo-sit-and-go-tournament while the meal cooks, or the laundry is in the washing machine. If they had friends around to play at home, not only would they have to clean house and provide refreshments, they'd also have to schedule it ahead of time to ensure that everyone was available. Online poker convenience means that when you're ready to play, somewhere online there's a chair for you to type your name on!

2. Online Poker Anonymity

Women often feel insecure when out alone, especially in an area where women are seldom seen. Mothers of younger children may feel that playing poker isn't something that they're supposed to do. The online poker anonymity means that no-one but you knows what you're doing. You can share with others if you want, or you can keep it as your secret pleasure. Something you enjoy that might not fit the good mum image that others have of you. With online poker you create a profile that tells as little about you as you wish, and no-one else will be any the wiser.

3. Women Poker Players Unite

As online poker becomes increasingly popular among women, there are leagues and groups sprouting up across the Internet where women can come together around the felt and enjoy the game. In a women only poker tournament you may find group members who come together once a week in a private game of regulars, as they might otherwise socialize in the local pub or coffee shop. The chat window may be filled with what's happening with kids and work, but the online poker playing is still serious!

4. Learning Poker Skills

One of the worst things about learning poker is that you usually do so at the hands of the people who are out to get your chips as fast as possible to increase their own power play potential. Women who are put off at the thought of this happening at the hands of men in a casino setting will find that with online poker they can watch others play, they can play low-cost (or even in free online poker tournaments) games as they improve their poker skills.
